Consultation
Most of the patients consult when they are in pain. Osteopathy helps to have a quick release of the pain. However, it is advised to treat underlying stresses and tensions even when there's no current pain. In general, one to four sessions are enough.
Osteopathy is an effective treatment to people of all ages (including babies) with physical problems caused by accident, illness or ageing.
Your Osteopath will ask questions about your symptoms, pain or problem and about your general health.
Having a global understanding of the patient's health will help the Osteopath to get to the origin
of the patient's health problem rather than just treating the symptoms.
As Osteopathy is working on the human mechanic with "hands on" techniques, osteopaths need to assess how the patient stands and moves.
The examination may require the removal of clothing to notice where the body tensions and tissue restrictions are.
Together with the questioning, the Osteopath will set a treatment plan.
There are a wide range of manual techniques to relieve pain wich are all gentle and painless.
Osteopathic medicine is drug free and works to restore normal function of the human mechanics.
In general 1 to 4 session are enough. Treatment is gentle, eventhough it may recquire the handling of painfull areas. Most people find treatment relaxing. Some patients experience soreness after the first sessions, similar to that felt after vigorous exercises. This usually lasts no more than 24H!
Following the treatment, the Osteopath will give you general health advice or short exercises to assist in the treatment of your problem.
Osteopathic medicine has its limits and osteopaths are trained to ensure that no serious problems are overlooked.
If necessary they can refer you to other Doctors or specialists.
